In Progress.

Committed to honoring the stories of sacrifice, resilience, determination, and triumph of African Americans to our collective history and culture, the San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum (SAAACAM) is working to collect, preserve and share the cultural heritage of African Americans in the San Antonio region. The next important step in SAAACAM’s mission will be brought to life with a new Cultural Center planned in the heart of downtown San Antonio, in the historic Kress Grant Building Block which is an icon of Black History as one of the first sites of desegregation in the city.

Working closely with SAAACAM and stakeholders from the community, Overland has collaboratively developed a project mission statement to guide the vision and aspirations of the conceptual designs for the new Cultural Center: The new SAAACAM Cultural Center will help define Black Space both locally and abroad by celebrating and preserving the cultural heritage of African Americans in the region and educating the community on a more complete American History. The building will add to San Antonio’s iconography of freedom by celebrating and preserving the untold stories and artifacts of African Americans in the region.

Let’s create meaningful experiences that move and inspire.
