A vibrant city street, featuring bike lanes and bus lanes, is lined with buildings, trees, and banners reading "UTSA" and "50." This bustling corridor of innovation sees people walking on sidewalks, riding bikes, and cars and buses traveling along the road.

School of Data Science & National Security Collaboration Center (San Pedro I)

Together, UTSA’s targeted development of San Pedro I, San Pedro II, and the Southwest Campus represent an exciting opportunity for learning, collaboration and innovation for residents of Bexar County…[making it] an even better place to work and live.

Peter Sakai, Bexar County Judge

Situated at the center of the Zona Cultural district, the UTSA Innovation Corridor – bound by Dolorosa and Nueva Streets – spans between the existing UTSA Downtown Campus and San Pedro Creek. The concept is an identity-maker for the area of the city that will surround the new School of Data Science & National Security Collaboration Center (San Pedro I). UTSA’s vision is for this space to become a welcoming sequence of public spaces that encourage knowledge sharing within the spaces where the University and the City meet.

Being a multi-site campus, the University was engaged in a conventional master plan for their campuses, so our work, focused mostly on downtown, included their presence at Hemisfair Park and the connection of the existing “downtown” campus to buildings planned in the city center. Planning efforts continued to include engagement of community stakeholders, especially in the surrounding Zona Cultural. Because the university committed to delivering a high-tech learning facility by 2022, master planning was scheduled around building design meetings in an integrated design/ master planning process.

The first building has opened, 18 months after beginning design and master planning, the second project, UTSA’s Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Careers Building (San Pedro II), is currently underway, and a more defined precinct plan is being developed concurrent with Architectural services.
